It’s The Time To Buy Fleet Vehicles!
With the end of the year approaching, the end of the tax year is also approaching. This makes it a great time to buy a fleet vehicle. When buying fleet vehicles, understanding the difference between light duty, medium, and heavy-duty trucks is especially important in order to ensure it meets your work-related needs. Looking for commercial and fleet vehicles? Visit Ray Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, where we have great stock of both fleet trucks and commercial vans!
The Difference Between Fleet Vehicles
A truck’s Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) determines its class. GVWR is a vehicle’s maximum weight, which includes payload capacity (i.e., passengers and cargo). Basically, GVWR is the maximum amount of weight a vehicle can safely handle. When comparing classes, the GVWR helps you know if the vehicle can handle what your needs require.
Light Duty Trucks
Making up a large portion of the market, light duty trucks are great for personal or light commercial truck needs, such as towing small items or hauling furniture or small to moderately sized building supplies or construction equipment. Some examples of light duty trucks include the Ram 1500.
Generally, light duty trucks have a payload capacity of about 1,500 to 3,000 lbs. with a towing capacity around 12,000 lbs.
Medium Duty Trucks
For those that need a bit more than a light duty truck but don’t need a monster, medium duty trucks usually have a GVWR of anywhere from 14,000 to 26,000 lbs. Some examples of medium duty trucks include the Ram 4500 and the Ram 5500. Great for work needs, Ram commercial trucks are at the top of the segment.
Heavy-Duty Trucks
For workers and drivers that are doing serious work, heavy-duty trucks generally feature a GVWR of 26,000 to over 33,000 lbs. Most heavy-duty trucks include large diesel engines and enhanced transmissions in order to handle huge loads, such as large fifth-wheel trailers or medium-to-large boats. Heavy-duty trucks also allow you to carry large construction materials or pull heavy loads. Some examples of the best heavy-duty trucks include the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500.
