Three New Theft Protections Announced
For owners of Dodge Challengers and Chargers, you’re probably aware that they, along with other premium and muscle cars, have become popular targets of car thieves. To deal with this problem, Dodge recently announced three new security measures that help to protect owners.
The new measures include the Enhanced Security Mode, Key Programming Lockdown, and the Intrusion Module. To learn more, visit a Dodge dealer near me today!
Enhanced Security Mode
Replacing the standard valet mode, the Enhanced Security Mode enhances the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger security system. So how does it work? Owners can enter a 4-digit code in the radio head unit which keeps the engine at idle speed, limiting the vehicle’s output to just 2.8 horsepower. This means thieves won’t be able to take off with your vehicle even if they have a key.
Enhanced Security Mode officially became available on Monday, August 16. It is available for the 2021 Challengers and Chargers with either the 392-cubic inch or supercharged SRT Hellcat HEMI engines. To take advantage of these protections, simply take your vehicle into a Dodge dealer so they can install the system by a simple dealer reflash that is completely free to owners. While Enhanced Security Mode stops thieves from making a speedy getaway, it doesn’t completely stop them in their tracks. This is why Dodge added the two other, more aggressive options.
Key Programming Lockdown
Many thieves are accessing a vehicle’s electrical system to program a new key that enables them to steal a vehicle pretty easily. To prevent this, Dodge’s Key Programming Lockdown locks the in-car portion of the key system, stopping thieves from creating a new key fob. Even in lockdown, owners can retain all normal functions, making the vehicle secure without a hassle for you.
Dodge plans to have Key Programming Lockdown available starting in January 2022, but it is possible it will be here as early as October 2021. Although it will at first be available for only 2020 and 2021 model year vehicles, Dodge plans to release the software update to support additional model years. It will go as far back as the 2015 model year for all Challengers and Chargers, regardless of the engine. Dodge also hopes to expand Key Programming Lockdown to another of its beloved vehicles, the Dodge Durango.
Intrusion Module
Finally, Dodge will offer the Intrusion Module for 2022 model year Challengers and Chargers. It will come standard on Scat Pack and SRT Hellcat models while being optional on SXT, GT, and R/T models. To enhance security, the Intrusion Module detects any disturbance, like a window being broken or movement inside the vehicle. Using an inclination sensor, an alarm activates to scare off intruders while also alerting you or anyone nearby of the attempted theft. The system can be deactivated if needed via the radio head unit.
Paired with Key Programming Lockdown, the Intrusion Modul means thieves will not be able to create a new key, break in, or tow away a Dodge Challenger or Charger without the alarm blaring.
