Ram 1500 Earns Top Safety Pick!
In February, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) released the 2021 IIHS Top Safety Picks. They rated the 2021 Ram 1500 Crew Cab a 2021 Top Safety Pick. This rating applies to all Ram 2500 Crew Cab models that are equipped with the Advanced Safety Group. IIHS Rankings Explained
The IIHS is a private nonprofit organization funded by automobile insurance companies and insurance organizations. It’s mission is to “reduce losses from motor vehicle crashes.” They do so by reviewing deaths, injuries, and property damage that results from motor vehicle crashes, as well as by researching and reporting on crashworthiness, crash avoidance, and roadway design.
Brian Latouf, the Chief Safety Office of Hyundai Motor North America, said of the IIHS awards, “The IIHS continues to set a very high bar for Top Safety Pick awards. Performing well in these tests helps keep our customers and their families safe.”
IIHS determines the Top Safety Pick award winners through several stringent safety crash tests. These tests include a Driver’s Side Small Overlap Front crash test, a Passenger Side Small Overlap Front crash test, a Moderate Overlap Front crash test, a Side Impact crash test, Head Restraints tests, a Front Crash Prevention Systems test, and a Headlight Rating test.
How the Ram 1500 Stood Out
Achieving an “advanced” rating from the IIHS, the Ram 1500 includes safety technology that builds on the pickup’s sensor-fusion Automatic Emergency Braking system. This feature helped the 1500 earn the rating because IIHS’ latest requirement is Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking.
Ram’s sensor-fusion technology combines cameras with radar sensors to determine the potential for a front impact with another vehicle. If the driver does not respond after multiple alerts, the system deploys the vehicle’s brakes to avoid impact or reduce speed and severity of the impact.
On top of all of these amazing features, Ram 1500 towing capacity is up to an impressive 8,420 lbs., demonstrating the vehicle perfectly combines safety and functionality.
Superior Performance
A major reason the Ram 1500 won the award was due to its performance in six IIHS crashworthiness tests. These six tests include three different frontal crash tests, as well as side impact, rear impact, and rollover tests. The Ram 1500 Crew Cab earned the highest possible score in each test, earning it the Top Safety Pick rating.
