2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Sells Out
The Dodge Durango received a total redesign for the 2021 model with more aggressive exterior styling and added the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, which is only available for a limited production run in the 2021 model year, to the lineup.
The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat package features a 6.2L Hemi Hellcat V8 engine with 710 horsepower and 645 lb.-ft. of torque along with an eight-speed automatic transmission. With this impressive engine, it can reach 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.
Hellcat Limited Production
When Dodge announced the Durango SRT Hellcat in the summer of 2020, it said the auto company would build the model for only six months. They did not specify the quantity of Hellcats it would build over the six months. Now, we know that the production run will be limited to just 2,000 units.
Despite a luxury-car-level price, Dodge stopped taking orders for the Hellcat after only three months in January 2021 because it was officially sold out. Dodge did, however, reserve a small number of units allocated specifically for dealers that will be available for a limited time. This means that if you haven’t already reserved a Durango SRT Hellcat directly with Dodge, your best chance of getting your hands on the Hellcat is finding one at a Dodge dealership.
Predicted Pricing and Availability
Pricing for the Durango SRT Hellcat starts at $82,490, which also includes a $1,495 destination fee. Depending on the availability of units, this price may climb with the high demand.
Dodge announced deliveries of the SRT Hellcat are scheduled to begin by the summer of 2021. Dodge is even including an entire day of high-speed driving instruction for buyers at the Bondurant High Performance Driving School in Chandler, Arizona.
Dodge also said the SRT Hellcat is not going to return in 2022 due to emissions regulations, so if you’re revving up to drive this powerful vehicle, the time is now to buy one. Tim Kuniskis, the CEO of Dodge, said, “When we switch to the 2022 model year, there are new evaporative emission requirements that come in that the Hellcat engine does not meet in that platform,” with the caveat that the V8 engine will continue to be available in the Dodge Charger and Challenger for now.
The Hellcat’s Exciting Value
Despite the luxury-level price, car enthusiasts are obviously excited about the SRT Hellcat, which explains why it sold out in nearly record time. In addition to the impressively powerful 6.2L Hemi Hellcat V8 engine, the Hellcat channels its output via an eight-speed automatic transmission and is capable of towing up to 8,700 pounds, rivaling even topline pickup trucks.
