There is a New Jeep in Town: The Jeep Wagoneer
Expected to arrive in mid-2021, the all-new Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer take the Jeep brand into luxury territory. With this three-row SUV, we get a glimpse of the future.
Originally brought to the market in 1963, the Jeep Wagoneer pioneered the SUV segment. Not soon after in 1993 the same amazing wood paneled SUV would disappear from the marketing leaving Jeep shoppers looking for what’s next for the next 25 years. Until now. Below, we list a few things you can expect in the all-new Jeep Wagoneer.
Lack of Jeep Badge
This all-new Jeep SUV is very different than other Jeep models in the lineup. Why you ask? There is a lack of the typical Jeep badge on both the interior and exterior of the vehicle. However, more than a dozen “Grand Wagoneer” scripts are found front and back, on sills and seats, and even etched in aluminum on the lacewood trim above the glovebox. Scott Tallon, Director for FCA North America said, “We wanted Grand Wagoneer front and center, and not necessarily the Jeep Brand. This is a way to change perception.”
Tons of Room
The big exterior makes tons of room on the interior. Head and legroom are plentiful. The middle row of the concept features captain’s chairs, a third seat could also easily replace the center console to seat eight in comfort. Jeep makes sure to provide a cupholder and USB-A and USB-C ports for the outboard positions. Final specs and measurements won’t be released until the summer of 2021 so stay tuned!
Plenty of Screens
When added all up, the all-new Wagoneer has more than 75-inches of screen! 45-inches spread across four screens in front and 30-inches from three screens in the back. It all starts in front with a 12.3-inch cluster screen displaying any important information in a non-gauge form. On top, a center console sits a 12.1-inch touchscreen and another 10.25-inch one lies beneath it. On the passengers side, there is yet another 10.23-inchtouchscreen. In the second row each of the two occupants gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen and in the center of them lies a third touchscreen to control the comfort settings.
All of these touchscreens are powered by Jeep’s Uconnect 5 infotainment system. Ralph Gilles, Head of Design said, “A full digital cockpit takes advantage of leading technologies that are beautifully presented with expansive and easy-to-use screens and limited buttons, allowing the focus to be place on a pleasant and intuitive experience for the driver and passengers.”
Styling
The Jeep Wagoneer concept is very modern, yet there are some parts of it that allow it to wear the name of its ancestor with pride. It’s quite long and squared off while also still featuring roof rails. This might upset some longtime Jeep fans while excite others- it doesn’t come with its signature wood panels… However, the concept Jeep SUV does incorporate some wood, just not in very obvious places. There is some on and around the headlights and roof rails.
All the headlines regarding the Grand Wagoneer point it at being quite a compelling seven-seat premium SUV offering. There are several reasons for that. For one thing, it’s the return of the legendary nameplate, one that used to represent the utmost in luxury, American-made SUVs.
