2017 Dodge Durango Was Built with Kids and Families in Mind
If you’ve got kids, a busy life and a need to keep things as uncomplicated as possible, then consider this: the 2017 Dodge Durango GT just received top marks from Cars.com’s Car Seat Check.
The new Durango–a burly SUV throwback that can tow up to 7,400 pounds and handle half your kid’s soccer team–is the perfect family workhorse and was designed with kids in mind. Testers at Cars.com found that the new Durango is perfectly crafted when it comes to child-safety seats; installation is easy in any of the Durango’s seven seats.
Car Seat Check used a Graco SnugRide Classic Connect 30 infant-safety seat, a Britax Marathon convertible seat, and a Grace TurboBooster seat to complete their tests. During the trials, the Durango’s front seats were adjusted for a 6-foot driver and a shorter passenger while the three child seats were installed in the second row. The booster seat was placed behind the driver’s seat, and the infant and convertible seats were installed behind the front passenger seat.
The testers also installed the forward-facing convertible in the second row’s middle seat with the booster and infant seats in the outboard seats to see if they’d all fit side by side. (They did.)
Here’s what Car Seat Check found:
The Durango has two sets of lower Latch anchors in the outboard second-row seats and three top tether anchors situated toward the bottom of the second-row seatbacks. The anchors are exposed and easy to use. (Remember parents: Latch anchors have a weight limit of 65 pounds, including the weight of the child and the weight of the seat itself.) Both the rear-facing infant and convertible seats installed easily and fit well in the second row. The testers found that there was no need to move the front passenger seat forward to accommodate the car seats behind it. The new Durango was clearly built to accommodate situations just like this.
The forward-facing convertible seat installed easily in both the second and third-row and the high-back booster seat fit well in either row as well. In addition, the second-row seats fold and tumble forward to create a wide path to the third row when necessary.
Of course, the 2017 Dodge Durango has an incredible range of safety features and a 4-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration so you and your little ones can feel secure at all times. Safety features include a full range of airbags, brake assist, child safety locks, integrated turn signal mirrors, night vision, a rollover protection system, traction control, lane departure warnings, and a blind-spot monitor.
