Dodge’s first-ever electrified vehicle is here! The all-new Dodge Hornet R/T is a plug-in hybrid crossover. It will be organized under Stellantis, and the Hornet name connects to Dodge history as a celebration of the 1970s station wagon—you might remember it from Disney’s “Cars” franchise. The Dodge Hornet Hybrid will have a starting price of about $40,00, while the Hornet GT model with a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine will be less than $30,000. How the Hornet Fits In
The Hornet is not billed as one of Dodge’s signature muscle cars because it’s paving the way for Dodge’s electric future. The brand’s sales and electrification strategy will be first built around the Hornet. It will have the top performance in the compact crossover segment and offer unique features, including a “Power Shot” mode for the plug-in hybrid that instantly provides 25 more horsepower to the vehicle.
Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis said, “We think the potential is huge with the growth of this segment.”
Take the Hornet for a Ride
Continuing Dodge’s tradition of powerful performance and capability, the Hornet R/T PHEV will be capable of producing more than 285 horsepower and 383 lbs.-ft. of torque. It will also have a ranger of more than 30 miles, after which the 1.3-liter turbocharged internal combustion engine will power the vehicle. The GT entry model will feature 265 horsepower and 295 lbs.-ft. of torque.
How to Get Your Hands on the Hornet
The GT Hornet is scheduled to hit dealers this winter, and the plug-in hybrid model will be available in showrooms next spring. The models will be produced in Italy. Interested customers can also get excited about a concept vehicle called Hornet GT GLH—standing for “Goes Like Hell”—which may offer additional performance and a slightly altered design.
